GSRD -- a medical products division of AF architecture & fabrication
The Gavage Syringe Restraining Device (GSRD) product line was launched out of necessity in August of 1995 when my premie twin daughters were born at the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas seven weeks early. Lacking only the nippling of a bottle, they were put on Bolus feed and placed in the special care nursery.
While visiting with the nurses early one morning I noticed the syringe containing the formula was taped to the wall alongside their open bassinets. It seemed out of character to me that this new, streamline, clean, and high-tech nursery would simply tape the syringe to the wall rather than having some type of "device" to suspend it within the bassinet. Hence the birth of the original GSRD - "Little Helper."
About a year later I was contacted by a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse manager looking for a solution to suspend a syringe in the center of a closed isolette. Using the existing hole in the top of their isolettes came the birth of the "Butterfly," a bendable stainless steel holder to aid in feeding these "micro-premies."
Fast-forward another year later... Same nurse manager. Same hospital. Another kind of challenge. This time a premie with gastroschisis needed to have her "silo" somehow suspended above her without the nurses having to tie it off or tape it to the overhead warmer. Introducing the "Silo Restraint." A wider, stronger hybrid version of the "Little Helper," it can still be used as a feeding device with slots on the vertical leg, however it also acts as a protective shield over the baby with its horizontal leg projection for silo tie off.
Two additional GSRD products are currently being tested in the Texas market - one for reducing and shielding light and direct air from premies in open bassinets; the other for restraining counter mounted infusion pumps in a non-horizontal position in order to achieve better lipid introduction into premies by nurses feeding with the mother's breast milk.
As a division of AF architecture & fabrication, GSRD is committed to developing the finest medical products - all cost effective, made with the highest quality materials, and provide for a direct solution to whatever challenge or need arises.
I am always open to any ideas for developing solutions for new products. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to call me directly on my cell phone at 214.793.7850.
